Bramble House is the newest home in Phoenix Learning and Care’s portfolio and is located on the East side of the historical port town of Bideford, within a friendly terrace street in an established local community, with a park and BMX track only a short walk away. The home is close to local amenities and many clubs such as Army and Sea cadets, Scouts, youth groups and a well-equipped gym, amongst others which are on its door step. You could be cycling along the famous Tarka Trail cycle path in minutes, being immersed in the beautiful North Devon countryside and heading towards beautiful beaches, or have a Hockings ice cream made by generations in the neighbouring town of Appledore.

Bideford has great transport links to Barnstaple. With Exeter a one hour and thirty minutes journey by car, or one hour by train from Barnstaple.

Staff come to the job with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, they receive a package of job specific training to ensure we meet the needs of the role and service users. We have Group expectations of quality childcare, which includes a statutory training course and further training contributing to safe, proactive practice. All staff go through a safer recruitment procedure which continues into their employment. The staff team at Bramble House are committed to supporting young people to achieve goals which have not been within their reach before, due to their very varied circumstances.

The house from the outside looks like a terraced home blending into its surroundings and nothing sets it out to look like a children’s home. The home is decorated and finished to a very good standard and in doing so creates s a welcoming and nurturing environment. Each young person will be encouraged to choose décor for their own bedrooms to give a sense of ownership and personalisation.

All young people will be registered with a local GP, Dentist and Optician generally within 3 days of admission. We will actively discourage smoking, however if a young person does arrive as a smoker, staff will make every effort to educate against smoking.

Education is provided in some form from the beginning of the placement, this may include home tuition, by a qualified member of staff, until formal education is arranged. Staff will follow up education plans on a daily basis to ensure that education is given high priority by all professionals involved in the case.

Staff will support the families of our young people where appropriate, and will always include and facilitate contact to the benefit of all involved. Staff and Management always strive to ensure that each young person is given every available opportunity to prepare themselves for independent living and adulthood.
